Senior Researcher

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

Dr. Swarnadeep Bhar received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, India, and his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Chennai Mathematical Institute. Before pursuing his doctoral studies, he worked as a Software Engineer at Temenos, where he developed data and analytics solutions for banking applications. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Université de Toulouse, France, conducting research at IRIT under the supervision of Prof. Nicholas Asher and Prof. Rufin VanRullen. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis on 11 February 2026. His doctoral research focused on improving the reliability of language understanding systems through computational semantics and modular reasoning, with applications to collaborative AI systems.

Swarnadeep is currently a Senior Researcher in the XplaiNLP Research Group at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. His research lies at the intersection of computational semantics, mechanistic interpretability, trustworthy AI, and AI agents. He is particularly interested in understanding the internal reasoning mechanisms of language models and developing interpretable methods for building more reliable and trustworthy language understanding systems.
